Some thoughts about Future State: Superwoman #1

Can Kara Zor-El help a new friend?

Kara is the Superwoman of the future and had to endure many things all these years but once that a new alien arrives to Earth, her patience will be put to test once again.

Final Future State issue for me this week which I'm cool with since as usual, the line has been hit and miss and it turns out this is written by a rather hit and miss writer. Marguerite Bennett is not particularly great and at times, she can deliver really awful material (although not as bad as the other Scott Snyder pupil, James Tynion IV) but I was willing to give her a chance here.

And I'm not that impressed so far.

This series is not bad actually and it can deliver interesting moments. The idea of Kara making a promise to Krypto who recently passed away about how being kind to others is touching (especially for people who have dogs) and the way how the story progresses concerning the new relationship with the recently introduced alien girl, Lynari, has decent scenes that draw parallels to Kara's own experience.

Aside from that though, the plot feels rather empty and is yet another Future State issue that tells us very little about this particular future. Plus, there's the Lesbian undertones that are always present in any of Bennett's works which is always cool in my book but Bennett implements them so much that is really predictable and repetitive (Just like when Greg Rucka does it, except that Bennett has more right to do it considering she's Gay herself). The biggest flaw is the political angle that is also usually in most of Bennett's titles but without anything really complex about it which ultimately makes it pointless.

Marguerite Sauvage is the highlight of this issue for me thanks to her beautiful style that creates gorgeous characters and scenarios.

Aside from that, passable I guess. Not a good way to end this week though.
