Is Blue Beetle ready for the rest of his life?
Jaime has been fighting villains for so long that he has completely forgotten about his own future and he will need to make a journey to discover it.
A new creative team arrives and... I wouldn't call it an improvement but is not a downgrade either.
As you might remember, Keith Giffen didn't finish his story in the book in the best way since the ideas he created were simply not good and towards the end he decided to simply make a conclusion for the previously unfinished series Justice League 3001... and it barely delivered any closure to it so it was an overall pretty worthless finale.
In comparison, the recently arrived writer Chritopher Sebela does create a few interesting themes that were pretty lacking during Giffen's run, namely Jaime's future and how it doesn't necessarily has to be related to his superhero work. This is actually a pretty realistic topic that a lot of teenagers have to handle, not knowing what they actually want to be or do so in that sense the writer creates a pretty natural development for the character.
On the other hand, the story is nothing to write about really since it involves a little travel with Jaime's friends and aliens which is not something strange for Blue Beetle although it leaves enough mysteries for the following issues.
Scott Kolins handles the art and his work is also okay with expressive characters and decent storytelling.
Not bad, not great, let's see how it continues.
