Is the New Superman destined to be the Emperor of China?
Kenan has been lost in a mysterious point of the past and there he will learn about All-Yang and his plans for the entire nation.
Once again, a pretty packed chapter.
Gene Luen Yang continues his storyline by focusing on worldbuilding and plot progression as usual. The way how he treats the Chinese stereotypes from comics and media from the 1930's is adequate and is appropriate injected into the story which creates a solid motivation for the antagonist while his connection to Kenan is slowly being revealed. The way how different elements from this book's mythos are presented is also welcomed and show an interesting direction for the story.
The character work is also solid due that the development for the protagonist continues its road and the rest of the cast receive decent moments where their personalities are clearly depicted.
Brent Peeples' artwork is not the best sadly, the way how he depicts Chinese caricatures is solid and his work can look decent at times but at others it just looks awkward.
Still, quite enjoyable read, hope the next issue arrives soon.
