Some thoughts about Hawkman #17

How can Hawkman defeat the Shadow Thief?

Shadow Thief's control over the Shadowlands give him unlimited power but even that might not be enough to stop a new rage that Carter has found within himself.

This a serviceable conclusion I guess.

Robert Venditti brings the final instalment of this arc and is mostly focused on the fight between Hawkman and the Shadow Thief. There are a few interesting character moments based on the history between these two, not to mention that the battle is decently paced and brings a few solid scenes.

The problem is that there is not much beyond that. I like how Shade realized that there was something wrong with Carter all this time which actually goes way back to the beginning of this storyline and gives it a nice sense of progression but at the same time, I feel like things end too quickly and sadly, this is also related to the infamous Year of the Villain event and I blame it for the abrupt end.

Pat Oliffe's art also gets the job done but is not spectacular, he has a pretty rough style that doesn't look refined nor particularly good looking.

Decent enough but I wish it was more than that.
