Some thoughts about Batman #81

Can Batman and Catwoman face Bane?

Bruce and Selina have returned to Gotham City and their allies think they can handle Bane's men but they all might be understimating their enemies.

To answer the question: No, they can't. At least not in this issue.

Because Tom King still wants to drag this story for who knows how long and it's all so pointless. In fact most of the issue is dedicated to overwrought narration that continues to follow the writer's trend of "Tell, don't show" and the few scenes that could be worth checking out like Thomas Wayne against Bruce's allies end too soon and makes this is a pretty fast read as usual.

Oh, but at least there's a second segment about Harvey Bullock going nuts which is all apparently connected to the Year of the Villain event and it's simply King being weird for the sake of being weird. Again, pointless.

John Romita Jr. handles the art and is decent enough but compared to his own work in Superman: Year One this week, it doesn't seem as polished. Mitch Gerads handles the second segment and at least it's good looking.

Easy pass. Don't expect anything from now on.
