Some thoughts about Green Lanterns #35

The Green Lanterns are about to meet one of the worst threats in the universe.

Bolphunga the Unrelenting has just arrived to Earth seeking for a challenge but there might be something more behind his actions.

Well, this was a pretty entertaining issue as a whole.

Tim Seeley brings the long-awaited story about Bolphunga the Unrelenting and takes it to surprising places. It was pretty obvious that Seeley was going to use one of Alan Moore's creations considering how much he loves to implement classic continuity into his stories but he includes a twist here. Bolphunga is not taken seriously at all, that should have been obvious from the final page of the last chapter but here things but this works since he has always been an over the top villain anyway.

That's not to say that there aren't solid character moments since Bolphunga's personality is actually explained in the story and his motivations are understandable. Simon and Jess obviously receive their own character work as well and goes in line with where Seeley is taking them.

Carlo Barberi handles the artwork and is pretty solid, I haven't seen him a while but his style here is clearly an improvement over his past manga/anime inspired work with more refined character models and overall storytelling.

Good stuff, excited for the next one.
