What is gathering the monsters in Gotham City?
Frankenstein believes there's an old threat rising and he believes he's the only one who can stop it but there might be other people involved.
A new miniseries arrives handled by an author that had its ups and downs.
Yes, I've mentioned before how uneven Steve Orlando's work has been after his fantastic Midnighter series since none of his books managed to reach the same highs and others were just plain bad. That being said, the beginning of this title promises a few more interesting aspects in comparison.
Orlando actually does a solid job at presenting the cast since in the little moments where the characters appear you see glances at their past and their respective motivations which could set them nicely for what's about to happen. Moments like Killer Croc referencing his time with the Suicide Squad, Frankenstein's history with S.H.A.D.E., Orca's family, etc. These are good ways to showcase the key members of the story.
Speaking about which, the story itself is interesting enough with the involvement of villain created by Grant Morrison during his Seven Soldiers work and this is not a surprise since Orlando has shown multiple times before how much he loves Morrison's concepts which also shows a logical reason for Frankenstein's involvement. The plot is mostly a set-up but is well-done in that regard.
Amancay Nahuelpan handles the art and is good looking with a vibrant artstyle, clear storytelling and interesting homages like the fact that Killer Croc looks like his Suicide Squad movie self.
Promising overall, let's hope it continues this way.
