Is Jimmy Olsen truly gone?
Jimmy's adventures lead him to fake his own death and now is forced to live under a new crazy identity.
Yeah, I don't think this is working for me.
Matt Fraction delivers a new installment where he combines the classic Silver Age Jimmy Olsen adventures with modern sensitivities but I believe there's a reason why this kind of take just doesn't work. The jarring transition between different crazy stories was more acceptable during the Silver Age due that people were not really used to ongoing arcs and even then, those crazy adventures were limited to a single issue each, not all of them condensed in a way that makes the chapter completely erratic.
I mean, there's an overarching plot going here, one that explains the reason behind Jimmy's actions in the first issue but they're all almost buried into multiple segments that constantly break the pacing and even offers off characterization like Lois and Clark laughing of the recent death of a person for the sake of "The Quirk".
Steve Lieber's artwork is really good though with expressive characters and an style that is fitting for the tone of the story.
Aside from that, I wish Fraction would have toned down some of his tendencies and delivered a work like in his Hawkeye run.
