Can Detective Chimp fulfill his role?
Bobo can't handle the responsibility of being the Nightmaster and believes that Blue Devil is the right person for it but his friends believe otherwise.
This worked rather decently I believe.
James Tynion IV delivers a new installment where he puts a resolution for one of its ongoing plots. The death of Nightmaster in the Metal event has been an important motivation for Detective Chimp and this allows for solid character work that explores even his own origins to create more development. The inclusion of characters like Blue Devil are also compelling due that the history he has with this kind of team. Speaking of history, I like that the Shadowpact was referenced here which brings back that enjoyable part of the continuity.
That being said, this is not exactly perfect. Tynion's dialogue can still be pretty overwritten at times, not to the level of his last Justice League issue but still noticeable. Not to mention that I don't necessarily like the new status quo of Blue Devil which kinda limits him. Also, he continues Scott Snyder's trend of barely concluding a story and immediately start another one which doesn't make the issue feel as satisfying as it should.
Daniel Sampere handles the art and his work is pretty solid with appealing character models and clear storytelling.
Appropriate installment, hope the next one is better though.
