Doomsday is back, now more dangerous than ever.
The presence of the creature is being felt around the world and everything that even comes close to it gets hurt. It's up to Superman to decide which is the better way to stop him despite that he might have to commit some actions he swore he will never do.
The proper beginning of the "Doomed" crossover and I admit that I'm actually impressed with this first entry.
Greg Pak, Charles Soule and Scott Lobdell are in charge of writing this one-shot and they do a quite admirable job at presenting Doomsday as a powerful threat that needs to be stopped no matter the cost. It's not really about the character itself but the kind of powerful menace it represents and I think that's the best way to portray a being like this.
However, the strongest point of this issue is the character work. Superman gets the most exploration and development on this issue and it's pretty well done, it includes several aspects of his normal and superhero life to help define his motivations and the result is pretty satisfactory. Of course, his not the only character depicted here, Wonder Woman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League all get respectful portrayals quite on-point with their current ones in their own books.
Plus, I liked the little hints about the ending of Forever Evil, they were really interesting.
Ken Lashley handles the artwork and his styles is pretty appropiate for this kind of story. It's pretty expressive and detailed which is also helped by the strong and dark colors that accompany his work.
Promising first issue definitely, let's see how the rest of the crossover plays out.
