Some thoughts about Batgirl #47

Can Batgirl face the Joker once again?

Joker is not only coming after Batman but anyone who is connected to him and now Barbara will have to deal with his madness.

Yeah, Batgirl will have to face the Joker once again. What a novel premise.

I can't blame Cecil Castellucci for the plot of this issue since this is all James Tynion IV's fault and his derivative Joker War event that will force every single Bat-title into it. The problem with all of this is that Babs fighting the Joker has happened so many times before that is just tiring and is not like there are so many more stories to tell about the personal connection they share. Gail Simone already overdid that during her run.

However, if there's something I can blame Castellucci for is the execution which still can be kinda messy. The usual overwritten narration is present here which is especially bothersome considering it all happens between Babs and the Joker just in her apartment. Nonetheless, I think the worst thing is that this doesn't tell us anything new about either (Yes, the Joker loves Batman, you really blew everyone's mind), not to mention that Castellucci continues with her classic cringey social commentary ("What scares a man the most? A woman who laughs at him." Ugh).

Robbi Rodriguez' art is solid with detailed character models and precise storytelling that depicts the insane scenes nicely.

Perfectly skippable. Just getting tired of this run.
