Some thoughts about Justice League #34

The Justice League is being overwhelmed.

Dealing with terrorists and natural disasters is something common for the team but one of them will start to suffer the consequences of it.

Here we are, the beginning of a new era of the Justice League. As most people should know, Bryan Hitch's stint on the title wasn't particularly well-received and it needed a change desperately. Is Christopher Priest able to make things better?

Well, yes but is not without its own problems.

I've been loving Priest's work on Deathstroke thanks to his ability to mix superheroic elements along with serious issues and that is still present here. The Justice League for once is forced to deal with more realistic threats in the form of terrorists and earthquakes. This obviously includes Priest's classic social commentary in different forms, not only about the things they're facing but also about the people they encounter. In fact, this is the first time in a while that I see the team acting more like people and even mixing among the rest.

A good example of this is Batman who appears to be more human than ever, meaning that his own natural abilities are actually working against him compared to the rest of the group. This might not be something appealing for people who like Batgod but is certainly more realistic.

That being said, the issue can be a bit overwhelming, it seems like Priest wanted to include a lot in this opening issue which helps a lot to give it a good sense of scale but at the same time kinda affects the pacing.

Pete Woods handles the artwork and is pretty solid with beautiful characters and  a distinctive style.

Solid aside from a  few issues. Hope things improve over the way.
