Some thoughts about Catwoman #34

An end of an era for Catwoman.

Selina is decided to help her friend Tesla to get out of the house but what she wants the most is to meet the man who stole her biggest secrets and Selina has no other choice but to help her no matter the kind of trouble that could cause.

The final issue from Ann Nocenti's run in Catwoman, does it deliver a solid conclusion?

Well, not really sadly.

Nocenti's work in this series has suffered from not so interesting ideas and lackluster execution and while this issue is not one of her worst, is still disappointing in many senses.

I appreciate some of the aspects that she tried to include in this issue like her usual unique dialogue and narration as well as some fun gamer-culture references that I really liked. However, the issue suffers from an uneven pacing and the villain is not exactly the kind of threat that could offer a true challenge.

In fact, this doesn't offer a satisfying conclusion at all, everything seems terribly mundane for a final issue and doesn't even focus on the character of Selina Kyle, Tesla is the one mostly in the spotlight, the final pages don't present a compelling ending either and it makes me wonder why even include a story like this in this issue in particular.

Patrick Oliffe's is handling the artwork and his work is the best part from this chapter. He has a style pretty similar to Rags Morales' and it works wonderfully to portray expressions and action.

Mediocre conclusion for a terrible run. Better luck on the next one for all the people associated with this.
