Some thoughts about Aquaman #32

Mera has just found some of the most dangerous inhabitants from Atlantis.

There's a dangerous sect hidden in the reign and they're not willing to accept their new King and Queen. Meanwhile, the most dangerous experiment from Triton base is about to destroy his own creators and maybe even Aquaman.

This issue marks the long-awaited reintroduction of the Creature King to the DCU and so far it's a competent one.

Chimera, the new name for the Creature King, is being presented as an interesting threat, one that has abilities pretty similar to Arthur's and this most likely present a exciting conflict in the future. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until the next issue for that.

The Mera segments of this issue are much more entertaining though. Her characterization is pretty on-point as she's portrayed as a pretty good fighter and maybe even more brutal than Arthur while the forces that are against her prove to be a pretty different perspective from the rest of Atlantis. Plus, it was great to see another character from the Aquaman mythos and Johns' run back on the title.

However, at times the dialogue can be a bit clunky and unnatural like when Chimera awakes and when Arthur starts speaking to himself. It's not really terrible but it's noticeable.

Paul Pelletier's pencils are gorgeous and represent some of the best aspects from this issue. His characters are beautiful and the creatures he designs are perfectly strange and complex.

Solid issue I would say, I wish that the story was moving a bit faster though.
