Sixpack and Dogwelder's journey has come to an end.
The whole planet is in peril and is up to Secion 8 to prevent its destruction but not without a sacrifice.
The end of this fun miniseries has finally arrived and while it was okay, is still not a great one.
Garth Ennis offers a final chapter where he explores the fate of Dogwelder and how the only way he can escape his curse is by dying but not before making a heroic sacrifice to save everyone. It touches the classic Ennis themes about how superheroes are mostly useless and it only takes a common (in this case not so much) guy to save the day. Even Constantine reflecting on it makes sense considering his history.
However, I don't feel that the connection between Sixpack and Dogwelder or even Dogwelder and the readers was that strong to make you invested in this. Sure, Dogwelder was fun and Ennis tried to give him so complexity but he was mostly treated as a joke and for that reason the conclusion ends-up being a bit cold by taking itself so seriously. I believe that the conclusion of All-Star Section 8 was better handled in that regard.
Russ Braun remains in art duties and his work is still wonderful with really expressive characters and a comedic tone.
Not bad at all but probably not the greatest thing I've read this week.
