Is Batwoman ready to war?
Jacob Kane's organization has sent one of their top men to infiltrate into Batman's base and is up to him and Kate to stop him before is too late.
Not a bad set-up overall.
And yes, this was mostly a set-up for the upcoming Batwoman series also written by James Tynion IV and Marguerite Bennett but it gets the job done at the very least. We see even more exploration of Kate's past along how her connection to Batman and Bruce Wayne were established which create an interesting link between them. The issue also manages to recreate the initial relationship she had with her father, at least in some way to continue her mission.
Some problems though, the villain who appeared here was more talk than action and we were supposed to expect something actually imposing from him but at the end he doesn't present a truly justifiable threat to spend so much time around him. It was supposedly created to make Kate look better but it doesn't really do a good job at it.
Ben Oliver handles the artwork and it has a dark style along with a semi-realistic tone that fits the story adequately but is a bit too stiff at times lacking fluidity in the storytelling.
Decent way to attract new readers overall, not perfect but let's see how it goes.
