What are Mr. Freeze's new plans?
Batman fears that Victor is planning something to revive his beloved wife but it might also cause death for every other person on Earth.
This marks the beginning of a new storyline this time focusing on the classic villain Mr. Freeze. For those who don't know, the last time Scott Snyder handled the character he completely recreated his origin to reveal that Victor has always been crazy and Nora was only an invention of his mind to justify his actions. Speaking for myself, I didn't consider this a bad thing since Freeze has done a lot of terrible things over the years and trying to romanticize such acts with a tragic motivation always felt wrong. Now Snyder is apparently retconning such retcon to go back to the classic origin, or is he?
Yes, is not particularly clear if Snyder is actually following upon his last tweak of the character or not, is apparently open to interpretation since there's a huge possibility that Batman might be simply trying to calm Victor by following his logic which is the best course of action I believe after the last story. Speaking of the plot, is mostly told from the perspective of narration and while is fitting in some scenes, in others is a bit obtuse but doesn't really ruin the read. Is appreciated that Freeze's plans are more creative than ever which is a common trend for the villains in this book so I'm happy for this direction.
Jock handles the artwork and his dark style is pretty fitting for this kind of story while delivering inventive storytelling with interesting panels and transitions.
There's a second segment focusing on Duke once again and it follows some of the subplots from Snyder's previous stories. Francesco Francavilla manages to make everything beautiful thanks to his expressive yet somber artstyle.
Qutie entertaining overall, let's see how it continues.
