Does the New Superman really deserves the name?
Kenan has revealed his identity to the world and they're not handling it the way he expected. However, there are bigger concerns once that a new group of metahumans goes against the Justice League of China.
I... actually think I liked this better than previous issues.
Gene Luen Yang brings a new chapter where he utitilizes the ramifications of the last one, namely Kenan showing his true identity to everyone, and creates an interesting story from it. Kenan is still obnoxious at many points, one of the things that writers must learn is that douchey characters can work as long as they have an interesting background and personality behind them or at the very least, they must annoy the other characters more than the audience. However, here he shows a few more layers of his personality which makes him not as insufferable and the rest of the cast don't automatically accept his stupid actions, they actually mock him and punish him for them.
The worldbuilding can be pretty solid due that Yang manages to explore more about the world of China and how that is connected to classic DC mythos (mind you, that makes it a bit derivative at points but is still enjoyable). Plus, the interaction between the characters can be charming in some moments.
Viktor Bogdanobic remains in art duties and his work continues to be the best aspect from this book even with the already improved aspects. The characters are expressive and attractive with a pretty distinctive style that makes the whole book really appealing.
Enjoyable enough, hope it continues this trend.
