Constantine is about to face Fate itself.
Johns has finally found the Helmet of Fate after all these years and is ready to make the ancient being deal with all the things it has done. However, is Constantine able to beat a sorcerer who has centuries of experience?
I'm loving this series, I certainly do.
Ray Fawkes manages to create one of the most unique and well-crafted stories from Futures End Month by not even exploiting that setting completely. I mean, you wouldn't even know that this is a tie-in if it wasn't in the title and the writer simply tells a tale where Constantine fights Doctor Fate in battle of wits.
And it works quite nicely on that premise. Fawkes manages to make Constantine the usual competent, smart, yet flawed character and gives us a different perspective of Doctor Fate's actions while playing with the same themes he has been using during this book.
The artwork is handled by Jaun Ferreyra and his pencils are incredibly appropriate for this story thanks to his dark, realistic and expressive style that also manages to capture the supernatural elements.
A wonderful one-and-done story and probably one of the best from this week.
