Batgirl doesn't exist anymore, at least not the one who most know.
Barbara Gordon lost herlsef after suffering one of the bigger tragedies in her life. Now as Bete Noir she's decided to keep Gotham City in check with her own team of Batgirls but there are things that she will still need to handle by herself.
This is the proper conclusion to Gail Simone's run on Batgirl, does it delivers?
Well, I'm happy to say that it actually does.
By exploiting the Futures End setting, Simone creates a story where she explores the whole history of Batgirl. The most important theme that you will be able to visualize here is a lot of love for the entire franchise including the presence of other Batgirls like Cassandra and Stephanie who are not really given last names but you can pretty much guess who they are.
Simone also gives the old "Oracle" persona a new twist by creating a Barbara who leads a group of superheroines to control the whole city which is actually a much more extreme interpretation of her role in Birds of Prey.
It was also good to see classic and favorite antagonists like Bane, who the writer clearly appreciates, and the ending is quite gratifying.
Javier Garron handles the pencils and his work is pretty appropriate for this chapter with a dark, yet expressive and detailed artstyle that depicts all the scene quite nicely.
Probably one of the best issues from Gail Simone's run and a pretty satisfying finale at that. Good work.
