Some thoughts about Superman #14

What is future of the Kryptonian race?

Superman has been reuniting allies everywhere to defeat Rogol Zaar but even if he manages to do so, this is only the beginning of something bigger.

The funniest part is that this chapter's subtitle is "The Conclusion: Part One" because this story sure needed to be extended more.

The rest is not so funny.

And it didn't have to be this way. The escalation towards the final battle is well-done, particularly how Superman is forced to create a new House of El with all of his new allies including General Zod which is an interesting idea. Also, despite of how lame and overused Rogol Zaar has been, there's an interesting twist about him that puts everything he has done in a new context.

HOWEVER, towards the end Brian Bendis did what pretty much everyone has been telling him not to do. The reason why Jon became older becames clear now, Bendis was setting him up to become the Superboy of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the future and this is bad because this means that Jon is out of the Superman book, won't return as his most lovable self in a while (or at least as long as Bendis is in charge) and he barely did anything in this arc to justify this whole change.

Worst of all is that Bendis hasn't been good at writing Jon so him handling the character in the new Legion book is not the most promising thing. Such a waste of potential.

Ivan Reis' artwork is really good though with a beautiful style that gives justice to all the multiple characters.

Aside from that, I hate this and I wish this was over already.
