Some thoughts about Harley Quinn & the Birds of Prey #4

Can Harley Quinn save Poison Ivy from the Joker?

Joker has kidnapped Ivy and now is willing to torture his ex but both Harley and Ivy had enough with him.

This series comes to a conclusion and this reminds me what I miss the most of this take and Jimmy Palmiotti's and Amanda Conner's work as a whole.

The issue opens with the cliffhanger of the Joker treatening to hurt Ivy in front of Harley and what leads is the classic both comedic and violent tone that was so prominent during Palmiotti&Conner's era, probably even more due that there are quite a few scenes dedicated to torture for the main character. Mind you, the creators know how to handle such segments by making them serious but at the same time delivering doses of humour, not to mention that it emphasizes character work for pretty much every character involved here, even someone so insignificant as Harley Sinn since her creators are not afraid of treating her terribly and, speaking as someone who is tired of the invincible Joker that has been so prevalent thanks to Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, is cool that we see a Joker that is petty and perfectly beatable here.

Once again, the Birds of Prey themselves don't have a lot to do and to be perfectly honest, they might as well have been cameos for the whole book since this pretty much was a Harley story but they still have good moments due to their relationship with her and this is something the writers really nail, relationships, especially between Harley and Ivy since they show how close they are. Also, I'm glad to see Power Girl here too and hopefully she will get her own book once again.

Conner continues to be a master of character expressions and follows the script as clear as possible delivering little details that makes it even better. Plus, is cool to see her usual final cover where we see every member of the cast in it.

Good read, hope to see more of this creative team.
