Some thoughts about Future State: Shazam #2

How can Shazam be stopped?

The deal with Neron was too much for both Billy Batson and his other identity to handle. This was the plan all along to create a brand new champion.

Let's get this out of the way: Tim Sheridan is not a very good writer.

I don't think I'm blowing anyone's minds here due that it should be very obvious because of the extremely mediocre and pointless work he did in Future State: Teen Titans but at least I felt that the last issue of Shazam had potential despite of the sometimes messy execution. That potential was completely wasted here though since this story turned out that be just as pointless as Sheridan's Titans work.

I don't know why but Sheridan decided to retell some of the events of the previous issue while not exploring the most interesting aspects of it (Shazam's dilemma of not being Billy Batson anymore) and focusing on him being tricked and possessed by Neron, all of this just to transfer his powers to... Raven. You know, Raven who was left at the Rock of Eternity by Shazam at the end of Future State: Teen Titans which you should be completely ignorant about if you like to avoid bad books. For some reason Sheridan thinks we should follow the continuity from different series (specifically The Flash, Teen Titans and Shazam) to get the full story despite that the only thing they all have in common is that they're terrible titles with abrupt endings.

Eduardo Pansica's art is pretty solid and detailed though, he deserved a better script.

I don't have any hope in Sheridan's future now. Prepare for the worst on Teen Titans Academy.
