Some thoughts about Future State: Dark Detective #4

Can Bruce Wayne survive once again?

Bruce has been escaping all this time from the vigilantes that almost killed him once but now to protect those who are close to him, he will have no choice but risking his new life.

This series comes to a conclusion (or I think so at least, sorry, I haven't been paying attention to solicits) and I must say that a segment makes me more excited than the other.

For one, it seems like Mariko Tamaki wants to compensate for the lack of proper plot progression in the last couple of issues by fitting pretty much everything in this last chapter and for that reason it seems like overstuffed with developments (Bruce revealing his identity to the new cast, facing the villain who "killed" him and so) but at the same time, it doesn't feel like a proper resolution because Tamaki wants to continue the actual story and investigation in her upcoming Detective Comics run with this installment ending in a cliffhanger and everything. It just doesn't feel satisfying despite that I don't think is badly written per se.

Dan Mora's artwork keeps impressing though, really Greg Capullo-inspired style that gets better everytime I see it. Wouldn't mind seeing more of his work.

Joshua Williamson delivers the best story here to nobody's surprise by also promising more of Red Hood in the future but at least offering what it feels like an actual ending for this arc and this little arc is simply fun. Williamson nails Jason's character and, while I still don't buy the relationship between Jason and Rose Wilson, he manages to make it entertaining enough (and much better than how Tom Taylor handled it despite that he created it). Very fast-paced with lots of exciting and engaging moments. Really want to see what Williamson is preparing next.

Giannis Milonogiannis's art is pretty solid with expressive characters and a clean style that depicts the script clearly.

Good read but mostly because of Williamson. Hope everything gets better from now on.
