What can save the world?
The Wonder Twins have just received a new pet and to protect him and everyone else they will have to use the strongest thing in the world.
Er, I don't think this is working so well.
Mark Russell offers a new installment where he explores a new idea in the ongoing adventures of the Wonder Twins. The introduction of Gleek allows the writer to focus on the theme about how there is not good and evil, there's only petiness and generosity and how kindness can save the world which, fair enough, is an idea I completely agree with. THE PROBLEM is that the whole "there's not good and evil" stuff has been exploited to death at this point and quite frankly, a story focusing on how there's really good and evil would be considered a novelty these days. Quite frankly, Russell doesn't touch any new grounds with this theme and while the intention of the premise is sound, I wish there was a better way to execute it.
Then we're left with a pretty basic superhero story. Sure, it has the classic fun Russell moments and solid humour but it still doesn't get above what you usually see in comics. To be honest, the strength of Russell's work is his social commentary and when that fails, well, you don't get much left.
Stephen Byrne's artwork is really solid as usual with beautiful tones and expressive characters.
This is not bad, is just rather unremarkable. Could it be that I was expecting much from Russell considering his previous works?
