Some thoughts about DC Universe: Rebirth #1

Several things were forgotten, more importantly, someone was forgotten.

Everyone believed that The Flashpoint created changes in the universe but they were all wrong, something else did, someone else did and now is up to the fastest man alive to make everyone realize that as long as they remember him.

This is the big one people. Strangely enough, everything since 2011 has been building up to this.

Geoff Johns arrives with the biggest story that he has created since the New 52 reboot and is focused on one of the characters that were ignored but fans never forgot: Wally West. Since the beginning you can see that Johns is taking inspiration from stories like Crisis in Infinite Earths but is not only about that, he also takes inspiration from some of his own stories like Infinite Crisis due that both play with similar ideas and those ideas will make a lot of people happy.

During the course of the issue you can feel that Johns pays a lot of respect for the character of Wally, he's definitely decided to compensate for the recent years of ignoring him and revives a lot of the connections he had with several DC characters including the most important person in Wally's life.

The theme of the book, aside from returning Wally to the DCU, is about legacy and how it must play an important role in the future. This is evident from several of the characters that Johns reunites here like the Blue Beetles, the Atoms along with several other heroes that represented such concept and they're pretty connected to the author based on his own works. Everything is coming together and brings a lot of hope for upcoming stories.

Oh, and the person who apparently caused such change? You will be surprised, I never thought this was going to happen.

Ethan Van Sciver, Gary Frank, Ivan Reis and Phil Jimenez handle the artwork and they do a magnificent work in their respective chapters. What a way to start a new direction.

Excellent issue and makes me really excited for what is about to come. I just wish Johns would stay to make them happen.
