Some thoughts about Superman #32

Can Superboy become Superman?

Jon is all on his own to save his father against the Shadowbreed but he will prove to be better than anyone expected.

Okay, this was a pretty satisfying conclusion overall.

While I wasn't that into the premise that Phillip Kennedy Johnson came up with it initially, his intentions got pretty clear after the first chapter. The arrival into a strange planet wasn't really my cup of tea, particularly because I was more into the father and son character work that Johnson was doing in Action Comics but surprise, surprise! This is also heavily connected with such theme.

The idea of the Shadowbreed, while interesting enough, serves more as the background to the highlight of the plot which is the relationship between father and children, about how much parents influence their kids, either for better or worse, and how Jon is destined to become something greater than we have seen despite of his own insecurities. Is pretty good development for both Clark and Jon as a whole.

John Timms' fluid artstyle is pretty solid thanks to his intense action scenes.

Sean Lewis' Tales of Metropolis comes to a conclusion too and is equally as satisfying by bringing back even more obscure heroes from the city while also making Bibbo into one of the most likable characters of the Superman universe. Sami Basri's expressive and good looking characters are always pleasent to see.

Good chapter overall. Hope to see more of this.
