Can Batman recover his city?
Bruce is ready to confront Saint because of the actions of the Scarecrow but first he will have to face someone who represents the future.
Mixed bag once again.
James Tynion IV offers a new installment where he further explores the new political climate of Gotham and that's where the plot shines the most. There are genuinely interesting character and plot development when Bruce is investigating both Saint and the Scarecrow, not to mention it offer good pacing and even a hint about what happens in Future State.
However, Tynion can't help himself and has to include his new Mary Sue, Ghost-Maker, into the mix and this is where the writing becomes pure cringe. Particularly because Ghost-Maker starts to show off his new cave in front of Harley trying to out-do Batman while she comments how interesting he is while any competent writer would realize that this kind of character can only be ridiculed, is just too forced to be taken seriously. Some parts like the introduction of Poison Ivy's old girlfriend who interacts with Harley are nice but again, I just don't like Tynion's Harley.
Jorge Jimenez' artwork is just a joy to watch, beautiful characters and energetic storytelling.
There's a second feature about *groan* Ghost-Maker and again, the worldbuilding about some his villains is fine but the writing trying to elevate that character is just obnoxious. Ricardo Lopez Ortiz' artwork has an indie-like aesthetic that makes you feel you're reading a completely different book though.
Not sure if enjoying this but still, let's see how it goes on.
