Some thoughts about Crime Syndicate #3

Can the Crime Syndicate save the world?

Starro is trying desperately to survive while Luthor wants the world to be safe. Unfortunately the Crime Syndicate only care about themselves.

Started average, got better and went average again.

Andy Schmidt puts an end to this opening arc and there are a few things to appreciate here. For one, I like the exploration of the background from some characters like Emerald Knight, as well as the addition of Luthor's Legion of Justice which are appropriately portrayed as the opposite of the main characters who actually want to help the people. The ideas are not bad.

The problem is that everything is told in such a mediocre way! The dialogue, pacing, action scenes and characterization is really underwhelming for the most part with very few moments of actual compelling material and even ending with the protagonists simply posing to the readers in a way that is supposedly being striking but means very little. Schmidt's writing is simply not apt to create a really interesting story.

Kieran McKeown's work is pretty much the same sadly, gets the job done but the style is not really beautiful nor follows the plot in a creative manner.

Schmidt's second feature about Superwoman works a bit better in fact due that is shows Donna's past and what put her in this path, the mention of Diana's fate was nice as well. Is not great but I prefer it over the by the numbers main segment. Bryan Hitch's artwork is also much more appealing and the storytelling is more engaging.

A bit of a waste. Not sure what to expect next.
