Whatever happened to the Metal Men?
Will Magnus always believed himself to be a genius to the point that he was willing to lie to everyone, including himself, about his most famous creations.
A new miniseries about this obscure team begins and, just like most titles post-Rebirth, is basically ignoring everything that happened during the New 52 which is a bit of a shame since I thought the reinvetion Geoff Johns made during his Justice League run was solid and their following appearances were also enjoyable.
Dan Didio has other ideas though and say whatever you want about him but he's not afraid to create interesting premises the break previous status quos. We have seen this happening before in Phantom Stranger and the Forever People, now is the turn of the Metal Men to see a brand new take on their classic mythos.
Will Magnus returns to be the old professor we all know and if we all know something about Will Magnus is that his mind is not the strongest despite of how intelligent he can be. Didio plays with that idea to depict the Metal Men into a bigger part of himself than ever before, something that they're not even aware of and something that ultimately comes back for him which might put them against their own creator. Is an interesting concept and makes me wonder what's going to happen next.
The premise doesn't end there since the issue plays with the Nth Metal, a concept that has been used since the Metal crossover and probably will develop new ideas.
Shane Davis handles the art and is solid with a good level of expression and a vibrant style.
Promising beginning. Hope things get even better from now on.
