Can Hal Jordan defeat a version of himself?
Hal Jordan from the Anti-Matter Universe is destroying the whole Green Lantern Corps and the only way he can stop him is if Hal works with his archenemy.
This series comes to a conclusion and, speaking as someone who is rather familiar with how Grant Morrison works, I should have seen the unsatisfying conclusion coming a mile away.
And is not like this comes out of nowhere. I have seen this happening quite a few times with Final Crisis and The Multiversity, series that started with promise and a nice sense of escalation only to end in disappointment because of Morrison's own obsession with fulfilling his own themes.
Weirdly enough, that wasn't the problem here. This is more akin to Morrison's Action Comics run in a way, the last few issues were pretty dull for the most part because Morrison was mostly dedicated to prepare all the key players to the final battle, the difference is that even his Action Comics at least delivered a pretty spectacular (although not really earned if you ask me) finale. This series on the other hand, delivers a rather abrupt end because Morrison mostly wanted to set-up his upcoming Blackstars miniseries.
There were a few things to like here like Hal's conversation with the Anti-Matter Sinestro (The "good" Sinestro) but this is also a bit of a disappointment since it would have been much better if Hal would have interacted with the actual Sinestro and for some reason Morrison seems to be ignoring all the development that Sinestro got in recent years to try to paint him like his more dated Silver Age typical villain incarnation. Also, the fight with the Anti-Matter Hal ends pretty quickly because, again, the story needed to prepare most of the characters for what's coming next. I seriously wasn't expecting (nor wanted) Morrison to follow Scott Snyder's style.
Liam Sharp's artwork was decent and he handles expressions and action scenes appropriately enough.
Overall, I wish this series would have ended halfway when it was still good. It's a shame.
