Can Lois Lane save the world?
The Kents' lives have not been the same since the world save Lois kissing Superman but that won't stop her from doing her job of uncovering the truth.
This was a long time coming. A series about Lois Lane is something that fans of the character have been waiting for a while and while there have a few one-and-done issues focusing on her, there hasn't been a proper long story with her as the focus. Greg Rucka is here to change that with a maxiseries and at the very least, it seems interesting so far.
I was honestly expecting this to have a bigger connection to the current Event Leviathan that Brian Bendis created from his Superman titles but in fact, the story is mostly centerer around the little plot point of Lois being seen kissing Superman and how the world reacts to it. This allows for a few compelling dynamics between Lois and Clark, about how their relationship handles this development and Rucka manages to create an engaging interaction between the two.
The story moves at a nice pace with Lois dealing with realistic problems like politics which makes the story more grounded than I anticipated and this works for the best I believe due that it exploits Lois' skills as a journalist in a solid manner. There's also the appearance of characters like Renee Montoya as The Question I think? Which is something I was really surprised to see since I don't remember her taking the mantle again.
Sure, this wouldn't be a Rucka story if he didn't use typical buzzwords in an attempt to seem relevant ("Disingenuous", yes, in bold, comes to mind) but these are mostly nitpicks to be honest.
Mike Perkins handles the art and is really solid thanks to his semi-realistic style that is perfect for this kind of direction.
Solid beginning overall, hope things continue this way
