Can the Justice League save the Multiverse from another crisis?
Martian Manhunter has been kidnapped and he will have to figure out the reasons behind meanwhile the team is going to learn a history they forgot a long time ago.
Gotta be honest, I'm not feeling this "Year of the Villain" stuff yet. It might be because I haven't been a fan of Scott Snyder's direction of "I'm going to make previously imposing concepts and characters less important with my brand new and totally better creations!" but is just not something that makes me more excited about what's coming next.
That being said, this still proves to be a decent enough issue. James Tynion IV continues to explore the new background of Martian Manhunter which, again, is not my favorite because of the forced connection they created between J'onn and Lex Luthor but there's an interesting development here due to the newly-found son of Hawkgirl and J'onn which promises bigger things for the two.
The best part for me is how they're acknowledging Crisis on Infinite Earths even though not all of them remember it properly, not even Barry whose death in that event was extremely important. Also, the Monitor and Anti-Monitor's personalities are further explored but I think Geoff Johns did a better job with the latter in the past and this doesn't come much of a surprise since he's much better at handling villains than both Snyder and Tynion combined.
The exposition is still heavyhanded and the antagonists are not that compelling but they're not obtrusive at least.
Javier Fernandez and Bruno Redondo share the pencils and their style is really strong with a great storytelling skill.
Not bad but I hope this is over sooner rather than later.
