Can the Jordan family save the world?
A mysterious creature has appeared at a family meeting and Hal Jr. believes that he can help his cousin with this problem from another reality but things are not as simple as they seem.
An Annual has just arrived and Grant Morrison delivers the kind of work that has characterized this book and his whole career.
Morrison's implementation of obscure characters and themes is focused this time on the Jordan family and how dysfunctional they can be at times. Sure, there's an alien threat coming to destroy humanity but at its core, this is mostly an exploration of often forgotten ideas that started way back from Green Lantern's origins. The incorporation of Harold Jordan, also known as the superhero Air Wave, into the story was a pretty interesting move and one that plays with the premise of the antagonist who is willing to take over the whole planet with radio waves.
This leads to an interesting conflict in the whole family where every member ends at each other's throats. Morrison references several classic moments like how the wife of Hal's brother only married him because she thought he was Green Lantern, how Jack Jordan was not the best person around and he even brought back EXTREMELY obscure characters like Doug "Hip" Jordan as the black sheep of the family (and considering he's the black sheep then believe me there was something really wrong with him). Is a nice recopilation of history of the character and is pretty cool to behold.
Giuseppe Camuncoli handles the art and is pretty solid with expressive characters and clear storytelling.
Good stuff, hard to see anything topping this this week.
