Who is the new Guardian of the Green?
Swamp Thing has learned that the Parliament of Flowers has chosen a new protector and he's not going to let another person go through his same path.
First Annual of this series and while I haven't been digging James Tynion IV's tenure in this title, I believe this story works decently enough.
Accompanied by Ram. V, Tynion delivers an installment focused on Swamp Thing and his new status quo now that the Parliament of Trees is no more. The writers play with classic aspects of the character like his desire of protecting others from what happened to him and this is especially relevant considering who has been chosen as the new Guardian of the Green.
The story is also centered around Oleander Sorrel and what made him the new Champion. The cases of both Swamp Thing and him are extremely similar, in fact they play with basically the same themes that Alan Moore introduced during his legendary work on the character but still, they manage to incorporate quite a few human moments that compensate from being a complete rip-off. Everything comes together at the end where the tragic classic ending of Swamp Thing is not repeated again which is satisfying in its own sense.
Guillem March handles the art and is beautiful with bizarre creatures and strong storytelling.
Decent enough, not sure what to expect next though.
