Some thoughts about Justice League #18

Can Lex Luthor and Brainiac work together?

Brainiac has taken possession of Lex's body and now they will have to learn the history that Vandal Savage has been hiding.

This could have worked better in better hands.

James Tynion IV offers a new installment where he explores the background of quite a few characters to create better context. Tynion works on the retcon that Scott Snyder recently introduced to reveal what actually happened to Lex's father and how he eventually became the man who most fans know. Mind you, I think that in some aspects it makes Lionel's history more complicated than it should be to create some sense of complexity but at the same time, it gives a more interesting insight about the character (although I must say that I'm not still a fan of the retcon).

That being said, Tynion's typical execution gets in the way as always due that he feels the need to tell EVERY. LITTLE. THING. that happens inside of the character's heads! Seriously, Luthor overexplains things so much that he doesn't leave absolutely anything to the imagination although it shouldn't be surprising since the word "subtle" doesn't exist at all in Tynion's vocabulary.

Pasqual Terry's artwork is pretty vibrant and works nicely in the most esoteric scenes.

Overall, a mixed bag. Still not sure if I like it.
