What will be Hal Jordan's next encounter?
A couple of strangers are telling stories about what happened to two powerful beings who are fated to meet one way or the other.
This story took a pretty interesting direction overall.
Grant Morrison offers a new installment where he plays with the ramifications of the last one while also working on some of his classic concepts. The introduction of the Sun-Eaters into the plot is something that you could see coming based on Morrison's previous works but it still makes sense because of their cosmic nature and how big of a threat their represent. They're are also incorporated appropriately into the story and to be honest, they're not the main theme of the issue.
The chapter is centered around the conversation between two mysterious characters who are discussing what exactly happened to Hal Jordan after he executed the people-trafficking criminal from the last issue. The investigation is handled in an interesting way but most importantly, the tale takes a pretty exciting twist towards the end and puts the whole conversation into a completely different context.
If I had a complaint it would be that the Guardians of the Universe are once again portrayed as a cold-hearted assholes who follow their own rules without caring about what others might think about it. This not only disregards all the work that both Geoff Johns and Robert Venditti have done in the series to sorta redeem these characters but also gets pretty tiring since we have seen way too many stories with this characterization.
I also think I'm getting tired of Liam Sharp. Once again, his creatures look pretty good in a bizarre way but at the same time, his storytelling can get really bad to the point where is kinda difficult to follow what's actually happening on page.
Aside from that, it was a good issue. Hope the next one arrives soon.
