Some thoughts about Heroes in Crisis #3

Who is culprit of the murders?

Sanctuary was supposedly built to help people but something strange has been happening in it and seems connected to the mysterious deaths that have been occurring.

More deaths, colour me surprised.

Tom King offers a new installment where he explores more of the nature of Sanctuary and I really believe this should have been the first issue since it at least explains how this place was supposed to help people with their mental issues, mind you, that wouldn't necessarily make it better due that this chapter itself is not. Yes, we have a better insight about what's happening in the story and to all these characters but on the other hand, I feel like some of those issues have been amplified to give purpose to the story and themes and if there's something I know about King's work is that he often changes characterization to fit into his themes.

Take for example Lagoon Boy, he was traumatized by the laser the hit him when he was part of the Titans team along with Power Boy and Little Barda who actually died. While I do appreciate the reference to the pre-Flashpoint continuity (Yes, that moment actually happened), I find hard to believe that the laser of all things would cause so much psychological damage, particularly because he has been in other fights where he was hit. Worst of all is the "treatment" where he constantly needs to be hit by a similar laser just to see if he can get over it. All of this is so forced and ridiculous in a vain attempt to seem "deep" and let's just say that King's dialogue doesn't make things any better.

Oh, and there's Wally. His reason to be here is because he misses his family lost in the previous continuity and fair enough, that's more justifiable. In fact, he might be the one who fares the best here despite of my previous concerns (although he supposedly dies of course). Mind you, this might be some sort of mislead so I'm not getting too much hope.

Booster is terribly written. Broken to the point of being unrecognizable and worst of all, with no actual reason. Why is he even here? Why? What happened to him to force him to get here? This is just the way that King writes him and is obnoxiously bad.

And there are more deaths being revealed. I don't remember if Kid Devil/Red Devil's death was revealed earlier but it still hurts because he was part of one of my favorite Teen Titans run and things are just going to go downhill from here apparently.

Clay Mann and Lee Weeks handle the art and their work is pretty good admitedly, following the story as best as they can with great expressions and emotion.

Other than that, not getting better and I don't expect future issues to change that.
