Is Deathstroke smarter than the average bear?
Boo Boo has been missing and Yogi has decided to ask for the help of the world's deadliest mercenary to find him.
This actually worked much more successfully than expected.
Frank Tieri arrives with a story that, unlike the Superman/Top Cat team-up, puts these classic characters in a way that makes sense, at least in this ridiculous context. The humour is probably the most remarkable aspect that you can appreciate in this tale, Tieri manages to create a really entertaining interaction between Deathstroke and Yogi although this comes with a bit of a sacrifice in terms of characterization due that Slade is portrayed in a more comedic way, sure, this makes him fit more with the tone of the story but in a lot of instances I can't help but think he's Deadshot instead (also the more comedic version of Deadshot particularly speaking).
The plot is pretty silly and simple but showcases many enjoyable moments, even the appearances of a few others Hanna Barbera characters including classic ones like Boo Boo and Ranger Smith while presenting the threat of zombie-like animals which makes the whole thing even more insane and all of this escalates nicely towards the end which also surprises us with a few other cartoon characters.
Mark Tekeira's artwork is semi-realistic but it still manages to create solid expressions for the animals and the more cartoony-looking creatures.
There's also a segment about Secret Squirrel and it seems like this is the actual beginning of the story that I covered in the already mentioned Superman/Top Cat Special. As it is, is still a solid tale full of action and fun. Tom Mandrake's artwork is still pretty pleasent.
Good read, and the next crossover, Green Lantern/Huckleberry Hound should be even better.
