Some thoughts about Suicide Squad #11

Is this the end of the Suicide Squad?

The team has spent a lot of time trying to regain their own freedom and once that they do, they will realize that their job is far from done.

Hey, a character is brought back to life in this issue!

And guess what?! Is not the Suicide Squad's staple, Deadshot, is one of Tom Taylor's new characters that nobody cared about!

Seriously, who the hell was asking for Jog to be back? A guy who had so little impact in the book that I even forgot he ever existed? Who?

As I mentioned before, some writers are able to earn killing a character being by either telling one of the greatest stories ever or at least by writing them so on-point that at least their deaths feel like they're given by someone who respects them.

I think is safe to say that Taylor didn't earn killing Deadshot.

Yes, he gave a role to Floyd's daughter (which is quite frankly just a poor imitation to what he did with Gabby, X-23's sister, at Marvel) but aside from that he never quite got the voice of either the cold psychopath that John Ostrander wrote nor the sarcastic killer that Gail Simone handled. Worse of all, Floyd barely had any importance in the plot and his death came so abruptly that I'm almost surprised there were not any plans to bring him back at the end (and no, bringing back a nobody like Jog doesn't count as some sort of "twist).

About the plot, eh, is giving more of Taylor's new characters importance, creating some of the typical Taylor's level of quality of political commentary (Beating a Trump-like character playing golf, yes, very original) and setting-up an apparent new direction for the new cast and I couldn't care less about it since I hate them for the taking the spotlight from the most important members of the team.

Bruno Redondo's artwork never disappoints though, beautiful (although worthless) characters and precise storytelling.

This book could have been so much, I thought someone like Taylor could bring the sort of spectacle and violence that the series required, and he certainly did, but at the cost of losing what makes the Suicide Squad the Suicide Squad. This is probably the biggest disappointment I had in Taylor since Earth 2 and I would NEVER say that lightly.
