Some thoughts about Heroes in Crisis #9

Can everything be forgiven?

Wally West has decided to kill himself in more than one way for his actions but people around him want to convince him of the contrary.

Answering the initial question: No, it can't, not at all.

Because everything in this story is not only wrong, is also incredibly stupid.

But let's explore the reasons behind okay? Since issue 1, Tom King has delivered one of the worst stories that I've seen in years, one that is only comparable to the atrocious Justice League: Cry for Justice and not only about the amount of death that both events share but also because both stories try to pretend they offer more than a terribly written gorefest and both fail in miserable manners.

For example, last issue was no doubt the worst in the entire crossover because it pretty much destroyed the character of Wally West by making not only the murderer, but also a pathetic broken coward who decided to frame both Booster Gold and Harley Quinn for his actions and wanted to kill himself after it. I've already explained how this betrays the core aspects of Wally West already last month so the only thing I would say is that no other author could get a character so wrong even if they tried.

However, while the last chapter was character assassination, this one is pretty much plot assassination because good GOD, is this one of the most idiotic resolutions that I've seen in a while.

First of all, the characters decide to forgive Wally for his whole mess because "He's hurting!" and I say "F*CK THAT!". He not only committed mass murder but also framed innocent damaged people for it and didn't even want to face the responsibility of his actions by wanting to commit suicide. He deserves all the hate and punishment he gets from now on and the only one who manages offer some of that is Harley when she kicks him in the balls which to be honest felt pretty good but it makes me realize how much I hate this take on Wally West because seeing one of my favorite characters suffering shouldn't be a good thing.

Second, the story gets unnecessarily convoluted because of course it does. Now that they have convinced Wally to not kill his future (or whatever) self, they still need a body to maintain everything as it was because time travel is stupid and you should never, EVER use it as a plot device, especially as the final twist to conclude your mystery story since, unless you have a perfect understanding of the concept, it will always sound like a half-assed solution. Worst of all is that it doesn't change absolutely anything, Wally STILL killed those people, STILL framed Booster and Harley and STILL ran away. One would think that at least time travel would try to fix all those things but NOPE!

Third and most importantly, this was a complete waste of time due that the whole "mystery" thing was a complete farce. This wasn't a compelling plot where you investigated the whole thing chapter by chapter, the culprit of the crime was given right away, you just needed to witness how ridiculously dumb everything needed to be to fall into place and thus, this just fails from both a character and story standpoint.

More things to complaint about? Well, the pages with heads talking to you continue and they rarely say anything insightful about the characters, wasting more content. Oh, and Kyle Rayner appeared and he speaks in Spanish because for some reason King believes that having a Hispanic dad that you barely knew forces you to speak in an idiom that you never used before.

Clay Mann's artwork is good but at this point who really cares?

And here we are people, the conclusion to one of the most terrible journeys I had to endure. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you more about what makes this so bad and you can figure that this will still get a well deserved spot in my Top Ten Worst DC Comics list of this year.

Everything that could go wrong went wrong and beyond.
