Some thoughts about Batman #120

Whatever happened to Batman Inc?

Batman is trying to figure out why his old allies killed The Abyss and he believes Lex Luthor is involved in all of this and he might be but not for the reasons he thinks.

Getting more interesting already.

Joshua Williamson offers a new installment where he continues the ramifications of the last issue concerning Batman losing his sight. This comes with a bit of predictable dialogue ("blind as a bat") and to be honest, they don't play much with the idea of how Bruce will deal with this, in fact this issue mostly deals with plot progression and in that regard, it does a good job. There are many scenarios going on here including Bruce trying to escape while building a dynamic with the new partner he just found, what happened to Batman Inc. and especially what is Lex Luthor's role in all of this.

Speaking of which, I really like what Williamson is doing with Lex here, presenting him as a sort of anti-hero who is trying to do what the protagonist does in his own way, I guess the reason why I like him so much is because it reminds me of how Geoff Johns handled the character during his Justice League run which I believe is the best direction for him. This pays off very well at the end due that the twist allows for a few interesting scenarios.

Jorge Molina and Mikel Janin share the pencils and both do a great job during their respective sections with strong storytelling and a dark tone.

Karl Kerschl continues his story about Maps Mizoguchi and while much shorter than the last one, it still presents all the charm from the Gotham Academy days if anything for Kerchsl's beautiful style that creates many dynamic scenes.

Good read, can't wait for the next one.
