Some thoughts about Teen Titans #47

Is this the end of the Teen Titans?

Joystick is controlling half of the team and they will need to free them before is too late but even if they do so, they can't keep working together unless there's someone leading them.

Well, this series comes to a conclusion and, despite that I missed an issue, I think is safe to say that Robbie Thompson's run was easily the weakest part of the book.

Despite of not being a fan of Ben Percy's work as a whole, I thought his run was fine and even offered a few great moments here and there. The title really reached its high point with Adam Glass though, by creating one of the best dynamics that the team had in its whole history (and that's saying a lot). Robbie Thompson however, never quite understood the characters that Glass created, or even the classic ones, the writer never got their voices right and thus, the whole dynamic suffered because of it.

Take for example this issue where both Kid Flash and Emiko are being controlled, not many problems here but neither Crush and Roundhouse sound like themselves, particularly the latter who used to be a personality during the Glass days. Oh, and of course that Thompson needs to force the Wallace and Emiko thing towards the end because for some reason the writer ships them.

And this doesn't offer a satisfying ending for the group since Damian is nowhere to be seen (which is particularly odd since he was the main character right from the beginning) and Nightwing suddenly appears to recruit them into his own Titans team just to set-up events for the upcoming Endless Winter crossover. Jesus, this was just as poorly handled as Dan Abnett's conclusion to Justice League Odyssey.

Javier Fernandez is pretty good though, I really how maniacal he made the characters controlled by Joystick look. The storytelling is on-point.

Aside from that, perfectly skippable conclusion and little run. Just read the Adam Glass issues.
