Who or what is the Batman?
Bruce Wayne and Tommy Elliot grew up as brothers but the tragic death of Bruce's parents completely destroyed the life of one of them turning for the worse.
The Dark Multiverse Elseworlds continue and despite that I was apprehensive about them when they were first announced, most of them have been interesting at the very least (and better than the actual Death Metal tie-ins). This one continues this trend with a tale that offers a few interesting twist during the course of the read.
Phillip Kennedy Johnson handles this story about the "popular" (Well, it sold a lot and I personally think it was fine) story Batman: Hush. The story is strangely enough centered around Tommy Elliot and what happened after the death of the Waynes, you might think that the writer is directing this plot to make Tommy the Batman of this dark universe but as I said, the author creates a few interesting surprises to make it less predictable and speaking of such, we see different versions of Jason Todd, Tim Drake and Dick Grayson, the latter adopting an identity that was given to him during Scott Snyder's Batman run.
Speaking of which, this is heavily inspired by Snyder's work due to the references to the Court of Owls and even the inclusion of a name that was very important during that arc. The story escalates appropriately showing how corrupt Gotham due to the lack of a proper guardian while at the same time showing what a place like Arkham Asylum can do to someone and making an inventive change to Batman's classic training.
Dexter Soy handles the art and is just as good as you would expect with a energetic style and detailed finish.
Good read, after how predictable this week's Batman was, it was good to see a better twist to the typical anti-Batman formula.
