Some thoughts about Death Metal: Multiverse's End #1

Who is Batman's true dark version?

Perpetua and the Batman who Laughs have been manipulating the entire Multiverse for a long time but Owlman believes he's bound to survive no matter what.

Another tie-in that shows promise but still disappoints because of the inherent problems of this event.

James Tynion IV is the one responsible for this story and based on that, you should know how things go. I shouldn't be too harsh on Tynion though since there are a few good ideas here like the fact that Owlman realizes he's actually not the first Owlman that existed and is always reviving in different ways which is the kind of metacommentary that I enjoy. Captain Carrot is also one of the highlights since he brings a lot of fun and heart into the story.

Then again, come the classic Tynion issues like his predictable affection to Scott Snyder's ideas like how Owlman is just being petty because the Batman who Laughs has taken his spot as the dark reflection of Batman (which is both bad characterization and even more glorification of that overly-used character). Not to mention that it turns out that Perpetua is basically responsible for every Crisis in the DCU now, great job Snyder fanboy.

Juan Gedeon's artwork is fine, the style can be a bit rough but tells the story clearly enough.

Mixed bag but what else did you expect?
