The Teen Titans have just gotten new blood.
Robin is decided to stop giving villains a chance and now has reunited a team that could put an end to crime, for better or worse.
This surprisingly worked much better than the last special.
As people might remember, I commented how Adam Glass' work is often defined by his "edgy" direction and that was pretty obvious during his initial installment with Damian being forced to use guns and form a proactive team to stop criminals before they do anything (because that has worked so well in the past). That being said, this issue is not really defined by being "edgy" as much as by being energetic. Yes, there's a lot of young energy in this chapter which is particularly obvious during the entertaining and witty conversations between the characters that demonstrate how good the dynamic between this new team is. This is something that the last run lacked to be honest, as I mentioned before, I liked Ben Percy's run for the most part but still had a lot of that "classic" Teen Titans feel while this feels like a much newer experience.
Even the new characters are pretty enjoyable. The big star here was clearly Crush for the mere fact of being Lobo's daughter but her personality is quite engaging and works well with the rest. Even the recently introduced members show a lot of potential, Roundhouse is pretty funny during his scenes and Djinn creates an interesting sub-plot around her. Add the compelling appearance of Kid Flash and Emiko Queen (still not calling her Red Arrow because ugh Percy) and you get a pretty solid mix.
Bernard Chang is in charge of art duties and his work is quite strong thanks to the beautiful style and vibrant finish that makes all the scenes a joy to watch.
Bettter than expected, promising beginning without a doubt.
