What is Metal?
The Justice League have been captured by Mongul but they suspect there's something bigger going on, something that seems to have been targeting Batman for a long time.
The DC event of the year begins here people. Scott Snyder has been preparing this story for a while which is obvious once that you re-read the last storyarcs of his Batman run and in that regard, he does a pretty solid job at creating an interesting set-up for the development.
As most DC crossovers, this one is full of references to the bigger DCU and it works quite nicely in that way. The amount of easter eggs to the mythos beyond Batman is outstanding and this is not only from the members of the Justice League but also from basically every property that DC has created, including Vertigo.
The story progresses at a nice pace thanks to the HUGE content this opening chapter has which developes the plot heavily relying on old history, particularly the one created by Grant Morrison. As people should know at this point, this event has a big focus on the multiverse and we see even an actual map of the multiverse designed by Morrison but with an interesting twist. Not only that but there are other references to the author's work like Final Crisis and even Barbatos, Snyder is certainly doing his homework here.
Greg Capullo handles the art and is pretty solid with a beautiful style but strangely enough, doesn't look as polished as his Batman work.
Intriguing beginning, interested to see where all of this is going.
