Some thoughts about Superman Annual #1

What is the Daily Planet's new story?

Metropolis has changed a lot recently and Lois is making her whole team work on all the current events that are happening around the city but this might lead them to a much more dangerous development.

Is cool when Annuals are used to explore different characters while at the same time progressing the main story.

Joshua Williamson implements this oversized issue to give a focus to the Daily Planet team (or at least most of them) which is a breath of fresh air. Is great to see people like Cat Grant doing something important like meeting Marilyn Moonlight while at the same time recently introduced characters like Lisa Lombard interviewing the people at Supercorp. If there's a complaint here is that I wish that people like Steve Lombard and Ron Troupe would have played a much bigger role but I understand why Lois ends-up having most of the spotlight here.

Of course Williamson also uses this as an opportunity to play with the different ideas he has been introducing since the beginning of his run. We see how Supercorp actually deals with the Metahumans they captured, Livewire continues to become a much more important character than before and the villains that Lex Luthor has been fighting are still preparing a much bigger attack. Even better is how Williamson addresses continuity as usual to play into the plot as seen by how Cat remembers the death of her son to motivate her on her work while Lois faces none other than the Red Cloud (the villain who was heavily pushed by Brian Bendis during his run and ended-up being nothing) due to the time they shared at the planet, these are the kind of details I enjoy from his work.

Mahmud Asrar, Edwin Galmon, Caitlin Yarski, Max Raynor and Jack Herbert share the pencils and while their styles are very different from each other, they all do a solid job during their respective sections.

Great read, this run continues to deliver.
