Some thoughts about Aquaman/Green Arrow: Deep Target #1

Whatever happened to the King of Atlantis and the World's Greatest Archer?

Green Arrow is hunting Aquaman for some reason, a reason that connects both Oliver Queen and Arthur Curry and they will both realize that they're being manipulated by someone else.

A new series about Green Arrow is always a must buy from and the fact that it includes Aquaman makes it even better. There has been a logical connection between the two characters since both debuted in the same issue of More Fun Comics in 1941, not to mention they also shared a similar physical look and believe it or not, that last aspect plays a pretty important role in this story, although sometimes to a detriment.

Brandon Thomas is in charge of this new miniseries and yeah, he presents a pretty interesting mystery going, one that automatically puts both protagonists in conflict and in a very intriguing way admitedly. This is not your typical "Hero Vs. Hero" fight because of such angle and it makes me wonder how both characters are going to deal with it in upcoming issues.

Mind you, despite of how innovative the twist might be, is ultimately still is a "Hero Vs. Hero" angle and this wouldn't bother me so much if Thomas didn't extend the hell out of it to the point that it takes most of the issue. The fight ends-up feeling pretty forced because of this since both characters should know at this point that neither of them is capable of commiting this act so we're just wasting time and pages here. Mind you, we get a few compelling scenes concerning their abilities and personalities but is still not enough.

The plot is very little since this is pure set-up, maybe if they wouldn't have wasted so much into that fight we would have gotten some progression but alas, that's not the case.

Ronan Cliquet's artwork is pretty solid with expressive characters and clear storytelling.

Intriguing premise, kinda dubious execution. Hope following issues offer more.
