Some thoughts about Aquaman: The Becoming #2

Why is Atlantis hunting Jackson Hyde?

Mera is currently being interrogated because the people in Atlantis believe Jackson is a threat and now they all will have to do everything in their power to survive.

This series continues to be a pleasent read for the most part.

Brandon Thomas offers a new installment where he further developes the mystery around Jackson's supposed crimes. The character work is certainly pretty solid due that the writer gives a great emphasis to Mera in this chapter and he demonstrates a great expertise at writing her and getting her voice, Jackson gets interesting moments as well and even his mother receives badass scenes. The dialogue certainly contributes to everyone's portrayals due that is both natural and entertaining.

There are some issues I have with the direction though and they're mostly about how Atlantis' "cops" are depicted. At one point it seems that from two cops only one of them is a bigoted asshole but surprise, surprise! The other is also just as much of a bastard. Mind you, this is not much of a problem since Atlantis does have a history with xenophobic tendencies but I wish more complexity and variety was presented in this case. Still, this doesn't ruin what is a very enjoyable story.

Gleb Melnikov and Skylar Partridge handle the art and their work is pretty consistent over the course of the read with expressive characters and a vibrant tone.

Good issue, hope things continue this way.
